The Phat Compressor uses a voltage controlled amplifier circuit and is based on the Dyna Comp compressor pedal but without the noise and tone suck associated with that pedal.
The Phat Compressor gives a rich thick presence to your guitar tone and is great for playing clean or boosting an amp or overdrive pedal. It works really well with thinner sounding single coil pickups but also with humbuckers, just adjust the amount of compression to suit.
Turn the attack knob up if you want more of an immediate attack on your notes. This effectively speeds up the release time on the pedal so you don’t lose that initial attack on each note.
The pedal can also be used as a simple boost pedal with plenty of gain on tap (at least 10dB), just turn the compression knob all the way down and turn the level knob up.
The Phat Compressor utilises JFET buffered switching for noiseless on-off switching and the pedal powers up in the same on-off state in which it was powered down.
Wima caps are used in the signal chain and where that is impractical Nichicon Fine Gold series caps have been used instead.
