Mental Health Technician - Day Shift

Malvern Behavioral Health is currently seeking Full Time Mental Health Technicians to work the day shift (7:00am - 7:30pm). Position includes an every other weekend commitment. This position is full time and benefits eligible.

The mental health technician assists in the direct care & management of patients across a young adult age range with medical and behavioral issues as directed by the treatment team. Assists with unit programming to facilitate the carryover of therapy issues, leisure activities, and activities of daily living with the functional ability of patients and with consideration for the patient's level of growth and development.

• Demonstrates consistent ability to problem-solve & communicate clearly, both verbally & in writing.
• Demonstrates regular, required attendance.

Malvern Behavioral Health is an acute behavioral health unit which helps young adults, ages 18 to 26, overcome mental health illnesses and addictions so that they can become thriving adults. Qualifications

Education/Training:

• High School diploma or equivalent or combination of education/experience.
• Prefer bachelor's degree or college courses in health care, mental health, recreational therapy, education, or human growth & development.

Experience:

• No minimum.
• Prefer one year's experience as a nurse's aide, mental health aide, psych aide, or the equivalent in a rehabilitation, psychiatric, or similar setting.

Licensure/Certification:

• Current CPR Certification (American Health Association Healthcare Provider)
• Handle With Care Certification

Physical Requirements:

• Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel with ease. Requires walking and standing often. Requires frequently speaking on the telephone. Must be able to occasionally lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Able to assist with the restraint of individuals weighing up to 250 pounds. Emotional stability necessary to perform essential functions. Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Communicating fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing in English. Ability to perform HWC techniques. Ability to appropriately interact with all program staff, patients, visitors, attending Physicians, and other department representatives.

Environment: Works in well-lighted, well-ventilated area, with high traffic flow of patients, visitors, staff, and others.

Job Hazards:

• Employee may be exposed to:
• Internal/External disasters in which appropriate policies, procedures, and plans must be followed to protect personnel, patients, and staff;
• Infections/communicable diseases and hazardous/toxic agents.
• Encounter some chemical listed in the MSDS sheets.
• Other: Participates in therapeutic crisis intervention with physically aggressive patients which may involve some personal risk.
• Occupational Safety and Health Administration: Blood Borne Pathogens Standards, CFR 1910.1030 This position is susceptible to reasonably anticipated skin, eye, mucous membrane, or potential contact with blood or other potentially infectious material that may result from the performance of an employee's duties or "occupational exposure." However, all employees have access to the facility's Exposure Control Plan and MSDS Sheets. Knowledge of appropriate policies, procedures, and plans is required.
• EXPOSURE: Category 1-Blood borne disease exposure through contact with contaminated blood and body fluids.
